Hi, I'm Karl!

I'm Karl Stanley, your Social Democrats councillor for the Clontarf LEA in Dublin.

I live in Fairview with my wife and teenage children. I have been living in this area for most of my adult life - I grew up in Blanchardstown but went to school in Clontarf, which sold me on the benefits of living beside the sea. I love this part of Dublin - it's close to the city and the seafront and has a wonderful diverse community of all ages.

I was co-opted to Dublin City Council in late 2025 to replace Catherine Stocker, who stepped down at that time. My contact details, attendance and voting records are all available to the public on the Dublin City Council web site.

Areas of interest

I have been a daily cyclist since I started university back in 1993. Since then, the streetscape of Dublin is has changed immeasurably - the port tunnel took the articulated lorry traffic off the quays, the LUAS provided fast and reliable public transport for those along its route and the Active Travel Network currently under development will provide 300km of high quality cycling and walking infrastructure so that people can get around under their own steam.

Dereliction and vacant property are a major problem in the part of Dublin I live in. Property owners have responsibilities as well as rights, and it's not right that we allow some owners to get away with antisocial behaviour such as leaving their building vacant or derelict for years or even decades.
